How to Use Custom Emojis in Your Personal Profile on Discord

Currently, Discord does not allow users to use custom emojis in their personal profiles (status, bio, or nickname) unless they are part of a server where those emojis are available or they have Discord Nitro. Below are the steps to use custom emojis from servers and through Nitro in your personal profile.

Prerequisites

• You need to be a member of a server where the custom emojis are uploaded.
• You must have Discord Nitro to use custom emojis across all servers and in your profile.

Step 1: Joining a Server with Custom Emojis

• Join a Server: To use a specific server's custom emojis, you must be a member of that server.
• Access Emojis: Once you're in the server, you can use its custom emojis in chat or in your personal profile (with Nitro).

Step 2: Adding Custom Emojis to Your Status (Nitro)

If you have Discord Nitro, you can use custom emojis in your profile, status, and across different servers.

• Go to User Settings: Click the gear icon next to your username in the bottom-left corner.
• Set a Custom Status: Scroll to Set Status, then click Set a custom status.
• Enter Your Status: Type any text, then add a custom emoji by typing : followed by the name (e.g. :party_parrot:). With Nitro you can use emojis from any server. You can also click the emoji icon on the right side of the text box.
• Save Your Status: Click Save to apply.

Step 3: Using Custom Emojis in Your Nickname (Nitro)

• Go to the server where you want to change your nickname.
• Click the server name at the top left and choose Edit Server Profile (Nitro) or Change Nickname if allowed.
• In the nickname field, type : followed by the emoji name (e.g. :cat_emoji:). Nitro users can use emojis from any server they're part of.
• Save your changes.

Step 4: Using Custom Emojis in Messages

Even without Nitro, you can use custom emojis in messages within servers where the emojis are hosted.

• Open a text channel in a server that has custom emojis.
• Type : followed by the emoji name (e.g. :star_emoji:), or click the emoji icon and pick from the list.
• Send the message — the emoji will appear. Only users in that server will see it unless they also have Nitro.
